Lets Talk

I believe that the whole point of counselling is for you to feel that you can talk about whatever you want to talk about.

Sometimes, it can be easier to speak with someone other than friends and family, without being judged or told what to do. The sessions are for you to explore whatever you like.

I continue my professional development by taking part in training in areas, most recently around  trauma and women’s mental health.

Ways of working

Nature 01

In Nature

The act of walking side by side can feel less formal and daunting and talking often comes easier when walking. There are many benches should you want to sit down along the way and we can work together to set a walking route. Many people are inside all day and may wish to get some fresh air, calming views and some exercise. When the unpredictable British weather strikes, I also have the option of a counselling room.

In Person 01

In Person

Alongside walk and talk counselling I have a spacious room overlooking Portchester Castle. First sessions will take place here to discuss how we can work together. Ongoing, I have the flexibility to offer counselling inside, alongside walk and talk. sometimes you may feel like a walk, other times you may want to stay warm inside.

asked questions

What about GDPR (General Data Regulation Protection) & data protection?

I will make brief notes after our sessions to monitor my work and our progress. I store your contact details and notes on my electronic devices which are password protected and only used by myself.  This information will be kept whilst you remain in counselling and thereafter for a period that complies with the BACP and my insurance provider, which is currently 5 years.

I am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) and as such update my yearly registration. I follow their regulations around the storage and removal of client information.

Is everything I say confidential?

As a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists), I will provide the highest level of confidentiality possible according to the law and the ethical framework set out in the BACP. However, some situations could result in disclosure:

  • If you are considered to be a serious risk to yourself or to other people, then further professional advice could be required.
  • Any illegal activities and acts of terrorism, where I would be bound by law to disclose.
  • Any child protection issues where a child could be at risk of harm or neglect must be reported to the appropriate authorities as required by law.

Depending on the particular circumstances, I, will always aim to discuss this with you before any kind of action is taken.

How much are the sessions?

Sessions are £40 and are for 50 minutes.  Options are available to increase session length. Please get in contact and we can discuss.

What if I need to cancel my session?

I understand cancellations sometimes happen and I do not have a formal cancellation policy. I ask that you give me as much notice as is possible before the session is due to start. As long as you reschedule the session there will be no charge.

Is the service accessible?

My counselling room is based on the first floor, and is only accessible via stairs. There is no access via a lift. I offer walk and talk therapy, which may be more accessible: for example, there are many areas to sit outside, instead of walking. Please feel free to contact me to discuss ways of working.

What are your qualifications?

I am a qualified counsellor and have also completed training in all aspects of walk & talk counselling.

I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists: adhering to their ethical framework and way of working, whilst also having regular supervision.

I continue to undertake training in areas of interest, for example, women’s mental health, addictions and trauma.

Do you have insurance?

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance is provided by Holistic Insurance Services. They are registered in: England and Wales. Registered number: 6387110.

Authorised and Regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority Registration Number 475577.

Do you work with children, couples or offer family counselling?

I currently work with adults on an individual basis.

Do you have a complaints procedure?

I believe in being open and honest. I would like to think that any issues could be discussed and resolved between us. However, should you wish to discuss with someone else, you can contact the BACP and their dedicated counselling concerns service. This can be found at https://www.bacp.co.uk.

Will my health insurance cover therapy?

Not at the moment. However, I intend to investigate this in the future.

How long will the process take?

Counselling can vary in the number of sessions. I can offer short and long term counselling.
